UTICA — As former Rome lawyer Robert P. Moran Jr. was sentenced in federal court Friday for helping to distribute methamphetamine in Oneida County, he spoke of the lives he ruined with his drug addiction.

“I want you to look at my mom and dad and tell them they’re not victims of my drug abuse,” the 48-year-old Moran said in U.S. District Court, while his parents sat behind him. “I alone am responsible for what I did. The buck stops here.”

Moran was sentenced to six years in prison for bringing methamphetamine from Arizona to the Rome area between 2002 and 2003, then giving it to others who would either use it or further distribute it.

Drivers have been warned about caffeine excess after a man was jailed for leading police on a 50-mile car chase after drinking 20 cans of Red Bull.

Peter Edwards, 48, from King’s Lynn, was jailed for four months on Friday after Norwich Crown Court heard he was pursued across Cambs and Norfolk.

His car was seen “swerving from side to side” across the A10, the court heard.

Cop Discovers Internet

LISBON - Parents need to be on their toes and keep their eyes on what children are viewing on the Internet. Salem Township Constable Dan Valentine issued a warning to parents in the county: Be familiar with what children are looking at on the Internet and limit what they are doing.

He said that a Web site called myspace.com was brought to his attention by some parents. After investigating myspace.com and a few others, he agrees this site and others are nothing but dangerous for children.

“Web sites themselves are not dangerous, but non-supervised ones, where children can post whatever they want, present serious and dangerous issues for kids,” Valentine said in a press release.

Myspace.com is a popular site for children to post online Web pages. There are no regulations or requirements for people wanting to post information so young people post what they want. Unfortunately, some of this includes personal information, family information and pictures. There are no parental controls for the Web site.

ST. LOUIS Jan 17, 2006 — Ken Ortmann, an alderman who owns a local tavern wants to lower the penalties for public urination before the Feb. 25 Mardi Gras Parade.

Ortmann said his bill would allow police to issue different citations for public urinators who try to be discreet than they might for those who are more open about it.

“There’s a difference between going in the middle of the street, in front of God and country, and somebody who is behind a Dumpster,” Ortmann said.

Some at Stillwater, Minnesota Area High School had their doubts from the beginning. Joshua Gardner was able to get inside the school on multiple occasions — that is, until some student journalists uncovered his past. At first, his interest in the school didn’t seem terribly strange. He called himself a prospective student.

“He was pretty quiet,” sophomore Frank Carlson said. “But he seemed to talk with a little bit of an accent.” Caspian, as the visitor called himself, came to the school three times, according to a police report. “I ended up hearing he was a duke from England (who) was visiting America,” sophomore Reid Gilbertson said.

Jeremy Majorowicz thought something was wrong when he saw a dog sitting on railroad tracks for at least two hours. But he didn’t realize how wrong until he and several other men determined that the gray and white husky had been literally frozen to the ties in below zero weather.

The construction worker first saw the dog on the tracks before his crew called off work for the day Monday because of the cold, and headed to a restaurant. But the dog was still there when they returned 1 1/2 hours later.

“I like animals, and I didn’t want to see it get hurt,” Majorowicz said.

Clarksville Police are searching for three men they say kidnapped, raped, robbed and held captive a 79-year-old woman for six hours after she attempted to walk into a Madison Street pharmacy.

The woman told police she was approached at about 3:30 p.m. Monday by a knife-wielding man and forced into the back seat of her bronze 1989 Ford Escort, according to an incident report by Detective Sean Averitt.
