A 15-year-old Nassau County girl who authorities say posted a picture on the Internet of her smoking marijuana while baby-sitting was arrested and charged with felony child abuse, the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office said.
According to the arrest report, the teenage girl — who is not being named because of her age — told investigators, “she had been smoking a joint with the child while baby-sitting” at her Yulee home earlier this month, according to WJXT-TV.
She also told detectives she took a picture of it and posted it on her personal MySpace.com page.

One billion people will die of tobacco-related diseases this century unless governments in rich and poor countries alike get serious about preventing smoking, top World Health Organization (WHO) experts said on Monday.

“Tobacco is a defective product. It kills half of its customers,” Douglas Bettcher, head of the WHO’s Tobacco Free Initiative, said at the start of an international conference in Bangkok to draw up a masterplan for the world to kick the habit.
“It kills 5.4 million people per year and half of those deaths are in developing countries. That’s like one jumbo jet going down every hour,” he said.
With smoking rates in many developing countries on the rise, particularly among teenagers, that annual death toll would rise to 8.3 million within the next 20 years, he added.

Still, though, if you’re going to have a pissed-off citizenry, nudity and marijuana really are the correct ways of going about it. Events like these give truly progressive citizens groups a bad name. If you want to smoke pot and be nude, fine. Just don’t do it publicly, you are not really proving anything.

At noon on Saturday, July 7, a group of what Fuda describes as “very pissed-off citizens” will march into town carrying protest signs against the Iraq War, President George W. Bush, and marijuana and nudity laws. As they make their way to Butters Park at the head of Main Street, where they have been assigned as part of the Downtown Festival activities, Fuda promises there will be open marijuana smoking and nude streakers.
“I fought the law and the law made more law. So the fight continues forever, as we the people will never stop drumming or smoking weed,” promised the organizer of the annual Fudafest in an e-mail to the Sun Journal.
Police Chief Robert Federico said he is not concerned.
